The way we live at home has changed dramatically in recent years, and remodeling trends in 2025 are reflecting that shift. Homeowners now want spaces that combine style with functionality: designs that are beautiful, practical and long-lasting.
Avis Builders and Design is a licensed general contractor in San Jose, and these are the trends we are actually being asked to build across Santa Clara County. These trends show up across whole-house home remodeling projects as much as single rooms.
Energy-efficient upgrades and spa-style bathrooms
One of the biggest trends this year is energy-efficient upgrades. From smart appliances in kitchens to eco-friendly fixtures in bathrooms, people are looking for sustainable solutions that reduce bills while protecting the planet. Spa-inspired bathrooms are also gaining traction, with walk-in showers, freestanding tubs, and calming color palettes becoming the new standard for relaxation at home.
Kitchens: open layouts with storage that hides
In kitchens, the focus is on open layouts with smart storage solutions. Hidden cabinets, multi-purpose islands, and durable surfaces are in high demand.
Outdoor living keeps growing
Outdoor living spaces such as patios, pergolas, and decks continue to grow in popularity as families spend more time outside. In the South Bay that means shade structures and surfaces that hold up through a long dry summer.
Durability is beating fashion
What ties all these trends together is the desire for durability and timelessness. Instead of chasing fads, homeowners are investing in designs that will stand the test of time while enhancing everyday living.
